Cardinal Dolan to Visit Iona Prep

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y — Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan will visit Iona Preparatory School to celebrate Mass and meet with Iona Prep students and staff Monday, school officials said. Cardinal Dolan recently returned from the Vatican in Rome, where he was appointed to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI.

Iona Prep senior Joseph Noschese inquired about the possibility of the cardinal visiting the school following Noschese’s opportunity to serve Mass with His Eminence in October at the Church of Holy Family in the Bronx.

“After Mass, I asked him if he would visit our school,” said Noschese. “The cardinal told me to write him a letter and he would consider coming. Sure enough, in December I received a correspondence from his office informing me that he would plan a visit to Iona Prep.”

Cardinal Dolan and his staff will arrive on campus at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of Lenten Mass with local pastors and priests at 10:30 a.m. in Tully Gymnasium. After the Mass, a note and gift basket with Iona Prep apparel will be presented to the cardinal, along with a Celtic cross made of stone from the isle of Iona.

Students and administrators will lead Cardinal Dolan on a tour of the campus, which will include the Jakeway Library, newly renovated science labs and a classroom.
