NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – An estimated 14,507 out of 28,958 Con Edison customers are without power in New Rochelle Friday morning as of 5 a.m., down from 18,340 Thursday morning, according to outage maps.
Officials with Con Edison initially said Thursday evening customers could expect power restoration by Nov. 9, however, by Friday morning those estimates were pushed back to Nov. 11.
Back-up crews specializing in tree cutting, repairing overhead lines and underground equipment, as well as damage assessment, are arriving in Westchester for assignment, the company indicated.
“Con Edison is marshalling resources from near and far to conduct the largest customer restoration in its history,” said Con Edison officials in a press release. “Contractors and mutual aid crews have been arriving or are en route from across the country.”
More than 139,000 customers out of 348,198 total customers served by Con Ed in Westchester are out of power as of 5 a.m. Friday, down from more than 165,000 customers Thursday morning.
The previous record number of storm outages in Con Edison territory occurred in 2011, when Hurricane Irene caused about 203,000 customers to lose service, according to the release.
Authorities are asking customers to report outages and downed wires to Con Edison and not through local emergency service lines. Customers can call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers are asked to have their Con Edison account numbers available and report whether their neighbors also have lost power. Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available, according to a press release.

i have not seen one con ed truck or worker in my area since the storm. my street has no trees down, wires are clear. locust avenue has 4 six floor apartment buildings and the halls and staircases are pitch black. is con ed waiting for people to get injured before they start to work?
Con eds website is incorrect. My block is completely down. 3 large apartment buildings and many houses yet their site says 1 customer affected. More like 101. Please come to circuit road. There are no trees blocking the road and our lines are completely accessible. 5 days is too long when one block over is completely fine!
Heard from a coworker that police were chasing guys posing as con Ed workers in the north end, so be careful and always ask for ID
What areas in New Rochelle are you seeing the reduction in numbers of outages? Not in the North End.
