Discovery Channel’s “Construction Intervention” show shed light on a family of painters that has been giving back to the community for years. Peter Gisondi and Co., Inc. traveled from White Plains to New York and New Jersey to help struggling small businesses. They recreated their looks and gave them a chance to succeed as part of the 11-part series.
“We give back to the community because without them you are nothing anyway,” said John Gisondi, president and CEO of the company. “We have painted plenty of local Westchester homes for the poor over the years.”
The Gisondi family became part of the show after working with its host, Charlie Frattini, on another project. Gisondi said they helped businesses ranging from a wine store in Brooklyn to the Blarney Stone near the World Trade Center.
“We did a total renovation,” said Gisondi. “That was one of my favorite episodes. That was true to heart.”
He said his brothers, Anthony and Pete, both vice presidents of the company, also participated in the show. In fact, Pete served as head painter.
Gisondi said crews of 100 people worked around the clock to make the transformations happen. He also pointed to the many organizations that contributed to support the projects, including Sherwin Williams and Greater Hudson Bank, which helped finance them.
A resident of Harrison, Gisondi and his wife Maria have three boys. Gisondi also gives back to the community by participating as a baseball coach.
He said he and his company regularly contribute to local charities, recently working with the YWCA and YMCA. They have also donated to causes including the Salvation Army, Autism Speaks, White Plains Hospital and March of Dimes.
“That’s the way the world goes around,” he said. “You take and you give right back as much as you can.”

The entire Gisondi family is proud to serve the City of White Plains & our other tri-state area communities by giving back to these families in their time of need. The past few years have proven exceptionally challenging for all of us, but it is through our legacy of service set forth by our company founder, & "DAD" PETER GISONDI SR that we continue to endure. Pete Sr always did for others and he made sure to instill his beliefs in us. We honor him for his 60 years of selfless service to the community and continue his charitable works today.
