NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Students will play all four rounds in Saturday's chess tournament at William B. Ward Elementary School in New Rochelle.
The National Scholastic Chess Foundation event will be organized in a round-robin system, so all students will play all four rounds, three in a Future Masters section, according to the announcement.
This upcoming contest will be the "Grand Prix" in an 18-tournament season. The tournaments are organized by a combination of grade and ability levels so every child has the same opportunity to win.
A tournament at Columbus Elementary School last week drew 115 players from across Westchester County.
Students who had perfect scores for the day included Scarlett Chen from Seely Place Elementary School who won the Primary Novice individual top prize, Kieran Normoyle from Hutchinson Elementary who won Primary, Sophie Surguladze from Main Street School in the Booster section and Alexander Xiao Xiao Heelan from Prospect Hill who took top honors in the Reserve section.
Participants may register for Saturday's tournament and get complete information at nscfchess.events4chess.com .
William B. Ward Elementary School is located at 311 Broadfield Road, New Rochelle, N.Y.
