Courtesy of a generous donation from a former Remington member, the club was able to update the clubhouse, which now will offer teen programs from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
According to Executive Director Quay Wallace Watkins, as part of Project Learn, teenagers will receive help with homework and tutoring from local college students during the afternoon. Evenings will feature one of a series of national tried-and-true programs developed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Extended hours won’t be the only new additions to the Remington Clubhouse, which has undergone a “mini-facelift.” It now has paintings on walls, additional furniture and Kandece Francis, former program director, now is leading the charge as the Remington Clubhouse Director.
“We are thrilled to have a person of Kandece’s caliber join our team,” Wallace Watkins said. “Her years of successful youth programming and commitment to the Boys & Girls Club mission will serve the Remington Clubhouse well.”
Francis expressed excitement about her new position. She said she is ready to continue the legacy of the esteemed Remington Clubhouse, which serves approximately 100 New Rochelle children everyday.
“I admire the tremendous work that has been done to serve the children at Remington and look forward to working with the community to build on the foundation established in its long history.”
