The Fosina family, which has called city home for five generations, earned the Boys and Girls Club’s Service to Youth Award for the money and time they have dedicated to New Rochelle over the years.

The Fosina family has been contributing to what was then called the Boys Club since the late 1960s, when they raised money for the local Little League and New Rochelle Youth Tackle league, where Joe Fosina served as the president for 45 years.

The bonds between the organization and city are so deep that three Fosinas – John, Joe and Andrew – have been inducted into the Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame. These days, 24 members of the extended family still call the city home.

According to Quay Watkins, the executive director of the New Rochelle Boys and Girls Club, the Service to Youth Award celebrates people and families that are willing to do whatever it takes to benefit their neighbors. The Fosina family embodies that spirit, notably Joe, the longtime Pop Warner president for who the city’s youth football and soccer fields are named.

“The Service to Youth Award was designed to recognize honorees that go the extra mile to make a difference,” she said. “The Fosina family, for years, has done so much for so many throughout Sound Shore.”

The Fosina family is one of three that will be honored by the Boys and Girls Club at their Tennis Challenge at Wykagyl Country Club next month. John A. Vermi will be awarded as the Man of the Year, while Susan Varsames was named Woman of the Year.
