NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Patricia J. O'Donnell Smith, formerly of New Rochelle, died April 22. Most recently of Anderson Township, Ohio, she was 79.
Smith was born April 3, 1933 in New Rochelle, the daughter of Lester H. and Isabelle Snyder O'Donnell. She received a registered nursing diploma in 1954 from the New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science nursing degree, summa cum laude, in 1978 from Worcester State College.
On July 10, 1955, she married John J. Smith. She became a certified diabetes educator while employed by Jewish Hospital in Anderson from 1982 to 1995. Smith retired from nursing in 2004. A former resident of Hollison, Mass., she was a member of the Anderson Senior Center, where she was involved in several activities, and St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Anderson.
She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Kim P. Smith, of Mount Washington, Ohio, and Karen L. Kramer, of Northampton, Mass.; a sister, Barbara Rondinelli, of Pocono Lakes, Pa.; and a granddaughter. She was predeceased by a son, James “Jim” J. Smith, and a sister, Eleanor Fetzer.
A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a reception. T.P. White and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or St. Timothy's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
