Benjamin Kent spoke about the Living Room: Theater that will be constructed at the first PopRocs on Wednesday.
The organizer of PopRocs, Sandro Oré, gave an overview of the event.
Theresa Kump Leghorn gave a brief overview of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts’ ArtsFest.
PopRocs is on the third Wednesday of every month from August to November from 5-9 p.m., and the New Rochelle Street Fair is on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The following Open Street questions were presented at the meeting:
- Is this feasible?
- Is this something NR Future members want to take on?
- How do we fill up Centre Avenue to Division Street with vibrant, engaging activities?
- What types of physical activities should take place on the Open Street (i.e., Zumba, yoga, karate, aerobics)?
- What types of experiences should take place on the Open Street (i.e., face painting, chair massages, manicures)?
- What is our strategy for filling up all the space and time slots?
Here were some of the suggestions for entertainment:
- Japanese drummers.
- Coffee roaster and espresso.
- Large canvas for people to paint on.
- Artist who does chalk drawings on street.
- Fortunetelling.
- Aromatherapy.
Here are some of the PopRocs questions that were presented:
- How do we incorporate the ideas from New Rochelle Nights and Food Truck/Taste Festival into PopRocs?
- Should a food truck court/pop-up dining scene be included in PopRocs? If so, can we find sources to provide tables and chairs to host this dining area?
- Who is willing to be on the PopRocs Action Team?
- How can NR Future be more involved?
- What other vendors/performers both within New Rochelle and outside of New Rochelle can be contacted to participate based on the themes?
It was decided that NR Future can be involved by identifying local talent and gaining publicity for the event.
