New Rochelle's Suzy Slattery Among Three Honorees At Holy Child School

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Three women, including Suzy Slattery, of New Rochelle, who work on behalf of others will be honored by hundreds of families, friends and benefactors at Holy Child’s annual Gala & Auction Friday, April 15 in the school’s new Field House.

The women are Valerie Brown, past parent and former trustee; former head of school and trustee Sister Jeanne Ronzani, and Slattery, dean of Holy Child’s Upper School.

When Slattery began teaching history at Holy Child 11 years ago, she said she could not believe that she was part of a school where joy in teaching and joy in learning was part of its mission. After teaching history for three years at Holy Child, Slattery became dean of the Upper School, where she continues to oversee student life.

She said she is dedicated to ensuring that every Upper School student is known and valued for what they bring to Holy Child.

In her role as dean, Slattery is a teacher, adviser, mentor, confidant, party planner, locker lady, drivers ed coordinator, and just about anything in-between. One of the things she said she enjoys most about her role is that every day is different.

When picturing a day in the life of Holy Child, one should take a peek inside Slattery’s office where they will always find girls, doing their homework, chatting about the weekend and just relaxing on her couches. When asked about having the girls in her office all the time, Slattery said she “enjoys the noise.”

“By honoring me, Holy Child is honoring all faculty at Holy Child. This school continues to bring me joy each and every day. It has always meant the world to me, my husband John and my family,” she said.

Slattery will be honored with the Holy Child Medal during the event.
