New Rochelle's Shane Holmes Receives Environmental Award

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Shane W. Holmes, a New Rochelle resident, was presented the NYWEA's Student Chapter Service Award for 2014 at the 87th New York Water Environment Association annual meeting held in New York City this February.

Holmes is a recent graduate of Manhattan College, receiving a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a minor in environmental engineering, and was actively involved in the college’s NYWEA Student Chapter.

He served as treasurer of the NYWEA Student Chapter for two terms and worked with the membership on coordinating events on and off campus, including a tour of the New York Aquarium, water taste testing for World Water Day and cleanup of Cortlandt Park.

Holmes won an architecture, construction and engineering scholarship, was on the Dean’s List and also volunteered in the Manhattan College mentor program. He also earned the best column writing award in 2013 for the college newspaper The Quadrangle.
