New Rochelle's Community Liaison Shares Hopeful Message

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- My great-grandmother on my father’s side moved to New Rochelle from Virigina around 1932, and my family has remained in New Rochelle ever since. My memories all begin and end with New Rochelle.

I was educated through the New Rochelle public school system and made long-lasting friendships here. I attended Daniel Webster Magnet School, Albert Leonard Middle School and New Rochelle High School.

After graduating high school in 2004, I went on to attend Fordham University, majoring in urban studies and minoring in business administration, graduating with my B.A. in 2008. I then worked in New Rochelle and interned in midtown Manhattan, having graduated at the brink of the Recession. I also pursued a freelance writing career, which was and still is a passion of mine.

In 2011, I went on to work for The Estée Cos. in human resources, working on the brands Clinique, Origins, Ojon, Darphin, Aveda and Lab Series for almost four years. When I felt that it was time for a change, I began looking for other opportunities, and it was this role as community liaison that truly spoke to me as the role that I wanted to fulfill for the next phase of my life.

I believe in New Rochelle. I always have. Although I have visited many places, I have never lived anywhere else, and I choose to call this place home. New Rochelle is a place where I would like to someday raise my children so that I can show them what I remember as a child, as those memories will remain with me always.

I believe in the people of New Rochelle and their determination to make New Rochelle an even better place to live. I believe in the city of New Rochelle because it will rise to the top.

New Rochelle deserves a chance to be greater, to do more, to see more, and to reach its full potential. I believe it can, and with the help of the community, I believe it will. It is not going to be easy, but it is going to be so incredibly worth it.
