NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – New Rochelle resident Ana Torres has headed south with the American Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Isaac.
“People need us,” said Torres, a volunteer case manager. She is in Meridian, Miss., for at least the next two weeks to guide storm victims to find needed services.
Isaac is not her first storm. Torres also volunteered to help victims after Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma hit the Gulf Coast region in 2005.
Torres is one of 36 volunteers from the New York area helping the organization in several states across the Southeast. She has volunteered for two decades with the Red Cross.
A total of 2,700 disaster relief workers are assisting in the region.
The organization also has a Hurricane App available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store so people can keep informed about Isaac and future storms as well as search for shelters and prepare for storms.
