More than 800 bagfuls of supplies were given away in the effort, said the report.
The drive to which families of the city's schools with low incomes were invited, was at Iglesia Refugio de Esperanza, Rivera's church, according to the newspaper.
The church and HOPE Community Services joined up for the effort, lohud.com said.
There were activities for kids at the event, said the report.
