New Rochelle Resident Honored By Water Association

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), a statewide non-profit organization of leaders in water quality management, announced that Shane W. Holmes, of New Rochelle, was presented the NYWEA Student Chapter Service Award for 2014 at the 87th NYWEA Annual Meeting recently held in New York City.

Holmes is a recent graduate of Manhattan College, receiving a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a minor in environmental engineering, and was actively involved in the college’s NYWEA Student Chapter. 

He served as treasurer of the NYWEA Student Chapter for two terms and worked with the membership on coordinating events on and off campus, including a tour of the New York Aquarium, water taste testing for World Water Day, and cleanup of Cortlandt Park. 

Holmes won an architecture, construction and engineering scholarship, was on the dean’s list, and also volunteered in the Manhattan College Mentor Program. He also earned the best column writing award in 2013 for the college newspaper, The Quadrangle.
