The Sharing Shelf also will be hosting a Teen Boutique from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at The Carver Center, 400 Westchester Ave., Port Chester. The Spring Teen Boutique (formerly Girl-Topia) will be their sixth such event, which features a one-day free pop-up boutique for girls ages 13-18 from families in financial need. Teen girls from throughout Westchester County are invited through social services agencies, schools and area nonprofits to attend and choose a week’s worth of seasonally appropriate clothing (at least 21 items), as well as accessories, costume jewelry, shoes, pajamas, robes and dresses.

Founded by New Rochelle resident Deborah Blatt and FSW in 2009, The Sharing Shelf collects new and gently used clothing for infants, youth and teens. The clothing is distributed to more than 2,000 children in need each year at no cost to the families. Each month, volunteers assemble more than 1,100 outfits, providing each child a week of seasonally appropriate clothing. The clothing packages are distributed through more than 50 area nonprofits, schools and hospitals that partner with The Sharing Shelf.
In 2008, Blatt, a resident of New Rochelle and active community volunteer, approached FSW’s Development Department with an idea, which she was eager to bring to Westchester – a clothing bank for children where families in need could receive donations of new or gently used children’s items or other basic essentials at no cost. Blatt saw many Westchester families were looking for a meaningful way to donate their children’s items but there was no unified way to link those who sought to donate with those who could benefit from those donations.
Fueled by Blatt's enthusiasm and sharing her concern about the increasing percentage of families in Westchester living in poverty, FSW agreed to partner with her and together they embarked on a journey to make her vision become a reality.
