More than a few residents were deceived by the recent string of warm, sunny weather that saw temperatures hovering near 70 degrees for several days.
Wednesday served as a harrowing reminder for many that, even as we prepare to flip the calendar to May, Mother Nature still has a few tricks up her sleeve.
New Rochelle resident Rachel Elwood said she stored her winter clothes and was forced to use her scarf as a shawl to cover her head in the rain.
“Over the weekend, I actually went through my closet and boxed all of my winter clothes and put them in the attic,” she said. “This is not the right weather for sundresses or flip flops.”
Although the string of sunny weather was broken by Wednesday’s storms, things look promising for the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, rain will continue until around noon on Thursday, with heavy winds. The skies should begin clearing by Friday morning, with temperatures in the mid-60s through the weekend.
Ken Deen, who works construction, said that because rain is likely to cancel his appointments on Wednesday and Thursday, he would probably be working over the weekend.
“It’s frustrating for sure, because there’s nothing you can do about it, but it’s a part of the job,” he said. “It actually started to feel like spring last week, and then all of a sudden it’s 40 degrees out.”
With temperatures set to rise, and sunny days on the horizon, Larchmont resident Andrea Rae Stevens said she simply hopes that April showers really will bring May flowers.
“In my mind, we had such a long winter, so we’re due for a long summer, right. At least that’s what I keep telling myself,” she mused. “After dealing with all the snow over the winter, I’m just excited to get outside and enjoy some sunshine.”
