NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- When New York State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins helped New Rochelle resident Edrick Forde celebrate his 105th birthday last year -- and declared Sept. 11, 2012 Edrick Forde day -- the Ludington Adult Day Services registrant promised to return the favor for a memorable day.
Forde came through just a few weeks shy of his 106th birthday by making a handmade skirt for the senator.
Forde, a native of Barbados, has been hand-making clothes for his family for decades.
“I am incredibly thankful to Mr. Forde for the beautiful skirt. He is still as talented a tailor as he ever was, and I am so thrilled to know him,” Stewart-Cousins said in a statement. “Adult day services, like those offered to Mr. Forde by Ludington Adult Day Services, are critically important because they provide senior citizens with opportunities to stay active and engaged in any number of activities."
