The Doyle staff hosted its annual luncheon honoring volunteers from the Foster Grandparent and Meals on Wheels programs, Montefiore Sound Shore Hospital Volunteer program and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program of the county’s United Way affiliate.

A crowd of more than 100 well wishers was on hand at the senior center, each of whom was presented with a pin and letter of thanks from New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson on behalf of the city.

Every level of volunteerism, from the people who read to the elderly, to the maintenance workers at the hospitals and even those that water the plants at Doyle.

“It’s an honor to host this event,” said Phillis Maucieri, executive director for the city’s Office for the Aging. “We salute the senior volunteers in appreciation for giving back to the community.”

The luncheon was part of a larger month long celebration that included the Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service, which Bramson honored along with nearly 2,000 mayors across the country earlier this month.

The Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service is “a national bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service in cities, to thank those who serve, and to encourage citizens to give back to their community.”

“These active seniors make a vital difference to our community,” he stated. “(They) set a powerful example for people of every age. I’m grateful for their dedication and commitment.”
