YONKERS, N.Y. – Westchester’s newest celebrities will be in Yonkers on Thursday, sharing their stories and giving a few basketball pointers to a group of school children.
New Rochelle high school star basketball players Khalil Edney, Joe Clarke and Donny Powell will speak to ANDRUS students in a noon appearance at the North Broadway school.
The New Rochelle team captivated the area, and the nation, earlier this month when Edney hit a miracle 55-foot to steal a victory against Mount Vernon in the Section 1 final at the Westchester County Center.
The next day, Edney, Clarke and coach Rashaun Young appeared on several morning television shows, including "Good Morning America" and ESPN's "SportsCenter" to describe the shot.
The team fell just short in its bid for a state championship Sunday, falling to Bishop Kearney, 45-39, in the Class AA championship game in Glens Falls.
On Thursday, the trio of ballplayers will share inspirational stories from on and off the court while giving students a few basketball pointers. Edney’s father, Lewis, a staff member at ANDRUS, will join the players during the visit, which organizers say is intended to inspire the children.
