The year 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the New Rochelle Art Association, and this exhibit marks the 98th year of NRAA exhibitions in the New Rochelle Public Library , what a great milestone, said Community Relations Coordinator Barbara Davis. We are delighted to again host the Dermot Gale Award Show. Mr. Gale was a prominent New Rochellean and active exhibiting member of the New Rochelle Art Association for nearly 40 years. The talented members of NRAA will be displaying a wonderful variety of works, which is always enjoyed by library patrons of all ages.
The show is open to all exhibiting members of the association, with a cash prize in Dermot Gales name to be awarded for best two-dimensional work in the show, according to the library. A prize will also be awarded for best in show, along with ribbons for outstanding entries in all media.
The Dermot Gale Memorial Award was established by his family after his death in 1980. Gale was an active exhibiting member of the association for nearly 40 years, serving terms as both president and program chairman, and producing a volume of work in his lifetime including a series of oil paintings of New Rochelles historic buildings for the art associations Bicentennial Landmark Exhibit, the library said.
The association has a long tradition of promoting and supporting artists and the visual arts, according to the library. Since its informal inception 100 years ago, in 1912, the association has included among its membership many talented and internationally known painters, illustrators and sculptors.
