YONKERS, N.Y. -- After three rounds of intense competition at what was one of the metropolitan area’s more unusual job interviews, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester announced that Veronica Watson of Mount Vernon was named the winner of the “Brick Factor” Master Model Builder Competition for LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester in Yonkers, according to a release.

Beating out stiff competition from the New York metro region, Watson, a graduate from the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, impressed judges and was awarded her dream job as a full-time salaried position as LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s Master Model Builder.

This one of a kind audition tested the competitors’ skill, creativity and their ability to work in pressure filled situations. Judges also assessed how well each candidate engaged with kids on-site.

In her new position, Veronica will be responsible for developing new features and exhibitions, building new models, as well as working with thousands of children and families expected to visit the attraction.

“I have loved building with LEGO Bricks since I can remember,” Watson said in a statement. “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to make something I love my full-time job.”

Watson has been with LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester since it opened its doors in March 2013, working her way up the ranks to be a part of the LEGO® Master Builder Academy as a model builder.

During “Brick Factor,” candidates consisting of current employees and outside applicants were faced with millions of LEGO bricks and demonstrated their skills at creating LEGO models in a series of time-limited, creative LEGO challenges.

A panel of judges, including LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester executives and a group of “Creativity Crew” kids, assessed each round of building throughout the day. Competitors were tasked with creating animals in the first round, instruments in the second and a free build that would be reflective of themselves in the final heat of competition.

“We were very impressed by the level of creativity and skill that was on display at Brick Factor and we faced a challenging decision to narrow the field down to just one winner,” LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester General Manager Chris Mines said in a statement. “We are excited to see the work that Veronica will continue to produce as a Master Builder.”

LEGOLAND Westchester is located at Ridge Hill in Yonkers.
