On Monday afternoon, Monroe students, faculty members, local officials and “Lady Mac” – the school’s mascot – presented newly appointed Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Lutonya Russel-Humes with a check for $1,500, which will benefit the organization’s various community programs.
This is the fourth year that the college has raised money for local charitable organizations through the “Monroe Miles” event in advance of Thanksgiving and the holiday season. The race kicks off at Syndicate Hall, concluding with an awards ceremony at Gaddy Hall on Main Street.
Monroe College President Stephen Jerome noted that he was proud that his school was helping to benefit one of New Rochelle’s oldest, most revered organizations, which has been around for nearly a century.
“We’re honored to host this year’s Monroe Miles in support of the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle, which has done so much to help the children and teens of New Rochelle over the last 85 years.”
