NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Marjorie B. Dougherty, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died June 2. She was 88.
Dougherty was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Bronx, N.Y. to Abraham and Helen Bebarfald. She attended nursing school at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and became a registered nurse in 1944.
She enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1945 as an R.N., achieving the rank of full lieutenant upon discharge. Dougherty spent many years working as a geriatric nurse, most recently at The Wartburg Home in Mount Vernon before retiring in 1989.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Thomas (Marie) Dougherty, of Clarence Center, N.Y.; a daughter, Carol (Aileen Clucas) Dougherty, of New York City; two grandsons and two step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Charles E. Dougherty and a brother, Robert Bebarfald.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Lloyd Maxcy and Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Chester on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
