On Wednesday, the Guidance Center of Westchester (TGCW) announced that the Westchester Community Foundation had awarded the organization’s “Center for College and Careers” (CCC) program a grant to “ensure academic success and college preparedness to first-generation students in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon.”
The grant money is expected to help the College and Careers program focus on students during their entire tenure at school. Courtesy of the grant, a part-time financial aid counselor and year-round persistency counselor will work with the organization to make certain that all students earn their college degrees.
According to TGCW officials, the grant will also “continue to provide for college preparation, academic tutoring and case management for high school students.” It also covers the expenses of local college tours.
“Westchester Community Foundation is a long-time supporter of the Center for Colleges and Careers. Because of their belief in our program, hundreds of students are accepted to, enrolled in and graduating from college,” CCC Director Daniel Bonnet said. “The Foundation’s generosity will help ensure that the 300 student who participate in our program will have the support they need to thrive in high school and in college. Now we’re excited to include two new components to help improve college retention.”
