On Thursday, Habitat Executive Director Jim Killoran presented Adam Kintish, the retail market manager for TD Bank with a ceremonial plaque – and cake – in appreciation for a $5,000 grant that the bank provided last year to help rehabilitate the ReStore, which is breathing new life to Main Street in New Rochelle.
Kintish said that the grant barely scratches the surface of TD Bank’s involvement in the community. Volunteers from the bank have also been actively working alongside crews from Habitat in the field for nearly a decade.
“This is an opportunity to get our people out there. We want our folks involved, and we’re only hoping to enhance the partnership we have,” he said before handing out TD Bank tape measures to volunteers at the store. “And we thought, what better than tape measures for the Habitat of Humanity?”
Despite not having a New Rochelle branch – though there is one near the Pelham town line – TD Bank continues to support Habitat for Humanity. Later this year, they have scheduled a tentatively-titled “Nickels for Nails” program, which will ask bank patrons to donate to Habitat’s account when using the coin counter.
“TD Bank is one of many businesses that are stepping up to help change neighborhoods,” Killoran said. “They’ve done more than just donate to our renovation, they have volunteers that are coming into the neighborhoods with us and getting dirty right next to us.”
Since opening its doors to the public at the end of last year, the 10,000-square-foot ReStore has rapidly expanded, filled wall to wall with salvaged materials that have been reused, recycled and repurposed, allowing all Westchester residents to live comfortably and affordably.
“(Jim Killoran) and Habitat bring hope to this county. All of the kids that get involved, they’re going to be inspired for the rest of their lives,” Mo Godin, a college freshman who has volunteered for four years, said. “The programs leave you always wanting to give back.”
