Five Questions for New Rochelle Art Director

Lynn Honeysett is the director of the Pelham Art Center on Fifth Avenue and has lived in New Rochelle for 26 years. She is a mother of two, a daughter who works in public relations for NASDAQ and another daughter who recently graduated from Emerson College and will pursue a career in public relations abroad.

Question: What is your favorite aspect of New Rochelle?

Answer: I am so proud of New Rochelle. The burgeoning artistic community has brought vitality to the downtown area and enriched New Rochellians from stem to stern. There's a feeling that there's a lot going on there.

Q: Do you have an accomplishment that you are most proud of since you took over as director?

A: Our Curious Exploration was wonderful. It was very forward-looking and interactive. We brought in an exciting new group of participants. We had art students in here from nearby colleges.

Q: What thoughts and/or feelings do you want visitors to the art center to have when they leave the building?

A: That they feel like they learned something that day that may have changed them just a bit and that they may have increased their openness and engagement with the arts.

Q: If money was no object and you could have any dream exhibit in your gallery, what would it be?

A: Any kind of art that we would choose would have to be very interactive and engaging. It would sprawl all over our premises and maybe down Fifth Avenue all the way to the end. People would be constantly engaged in some way and interacting.

Q: Do you think you will ever move from New Rochelle?

A: I consider New Rochelle a home. I'm excited about traveling and visiting other places.
