Doris MacArthur, 93, New Rochelle Volunteer

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Lifelong New Rochelle resident Doris E. MacArthur died Tuesday, April 24. She was 93. 

Born Aug. 28, 1918, in New Rochelle, she was the daughter of George D. and Clara McKay Enright. A graduate of New Rochelle High School, MacArthur worked in accounting and as an executive secretary with Lowes International Entertainment Company. 

During her time at Lowes, red carpet premiere events were held at New Rochelle Lowes Theater on Main Street. She retired from Lowes in 1981 after 38 years. She married Donald MacArthur on June 19, 1960 at Holy Name Of Jesus Church.

MacArthur was active in her community throughout her life. She volunteered with Sound Shore Medical Center for over 18 years and devoted many years of service to the New Rochelle Library. She was also a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps for years.  

MacArthur was a member of St. Augustine Senior Center and enjoyed traveling with fellow members. She supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the ASPCA, and was a Gold Class Member of the Audubon Society. An avid reader, she spent many hours working through crossword puzzles.  

She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Periasepe, of Washington, D.C., as well as a niece and nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1994, and two brothers, Robert and Daniel II.  

In keeping with her wishes, a private cremation was held. George T. Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
