Donate Wreaths In Pelham To Remember Veterans During Holidays

PELHAM, N.Y. -- The holidays are a time to remember the "ultimate sacrifice" veterans have made for our country, say organizers of a wreath collection drive set for Saturday, Dec. 5 in Pelham.

Cadets of Cadet Squadron 1 and Pelham Funeral Home will collect wreaths in Pelham for a special ceremony to remember veterans.

Wreaths will be collected at two locations by Civil Air Patrol cadets and the Pelham Funeral Home for a national effort, Wreaths Across America.

Locally the wreaths will then be dedicated by the Cadet Squadron 1 cadets in a Dec. 12 ceremony at St. Paul's Church in Mount Vernon.

"It is important to remember Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to support their families during this time of year," said Clive Anderson, owner of Pelham Funeral Home.

“This marks the third year that our cadets will participate in Wreaths Across America, a program that teaches our cadets to honor the sacrifices made by our veterans," said First Lieutenant Commander Kathy Torres, of Westchester Cadet Squadron 1.

The volunteers will accept donated wreaths at a table outside DeCicco & Sons supermarket, 43 Fifth Ave, from 2 p.m. and at the Pelham Tree Lighting event on Candy Cane Lane from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
