NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Betzally Espichan is the new director of the Ward Elementary School after-school program run by the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle.
Espichan graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish and a minor in psychology, completing the college's childhood education program.
“Betzally’s intelligence, confidence and energy are unyielding. This allows her to provide notable programming and activities to our Ward Club members,” said Eric Woodlin, director of operations.
Over the last five years, Espichan assisted teachers in the Bronx and New Rochelle classrooms of various academic levels, and is currently working as a substitute teacher in the Port Chester school district.
In addition, she is working on obtaining certification as a K-6 elementary school teacher. Her commitment to the social and academic growth of every student, no matter what the student’s background is, has motivated her to continue her education in pursuing a master’s in bilingual and bi-cultural education.
Being a Peruvian native, having to adapt to a new culture and language helps her connect to those students who struggle facing new challenges.
As director, Espichan aims to foster meaningful relationships, between students, staff and parents.
