NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Joseph Balfe, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died Jan. 9 at the age of 86.
He was born Oct. 14, 1925 in Paterson, N.J. to the late Joseph and Mary Balfe. He served in the Army during World War II and was the retired owner and operator of Bluebird Taxi in New Rochelle for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Judith O'Hara, his sons Joseph Balfe, Jr., Thomas Balfe and Kevin Balfe, his daughters Susan Collins, Lori Clokey and Barbara Bonsignore, his step-son Christopher O'Hara and 18 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Doris Philp, his sons Robert, John and William and his sisters Maureen Grimmer and Eileen Balfe.
Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church, followed by private interment.
