The Chappaqua residents announced the split on Friday in a joint statement to ET. The separation comes just a year after Stiller announced he has prostate cancer.

The couple has two children.

"With tremendous love and respect for each other, and the 18 years we spent together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate," the statement said. "Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect our privacy at this time."

Stiller starred in the films “There’s Something About Mary,” “Permanent Midnight,” “Along Came Polly,” “Starsky and Hutch” and “The Royal Tannenbaums”.

Stiller and Taylor were active in Democratic politics, and support several charities, including the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation and several animal rights groups.
