A new cooking show featuring Emmy award winning television personality and best-selling author Sherri Shepherd visits with Alvin Clayton of New Rochelle's Alvin & Friends Restaurant on Sunday, Sept. 20.
The theme of Clayton's segment is "Faith, Friends, Shrimp & Grits" and features the eatery's Southern-style shrimp and grits cooked up by Mount Vernon resident, Chef Raymond Jackson.
Shepherd's show, which premiered August 23 on the Cooking Channel, is entitled "Holy & Hungry" and is all about celebrating the places and people whose love for cooking is matched by their passion for their faith.
“Eating has always been like a religious experience for me," said Shepherd."Growing up, my father was a Deacon and my mother always cooked all of our meals, so we had good food on the table and faith in our hearts.
"I’m excited to share the personal stories and mouthwatering recipes of those who are just as passionate about food and faith as I am."
Clayton said working with Shepherd wasn't like working. "We're like-minded individuals," he said. "We laughed the whole time."
The New Rochelle resident said his restaurant has always been about food, friends and fun, something Shepherd is a fan of. "She exudes Southern hospitality," he added, "Which is what we're all about, so it was a perfect fit."
"Faith, Friends, Shrimp & Grits" airs Sunday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m.
