Several Cars Line Up To Recycle In New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – New Rochelle resident Constance Blackwell was first in line to get rid of her papers during the Westchester County Mobile Shredder’s visit to city hall Saturday morning.

Blackwell was glad to shred old bills, receipts and other papers during her second visit to the truck since the county started the program.

“It helps me get rid of stuff. I don’t have to ride around every place and basically it’s free,” Blackwell said.

The service to residents is part of the county’s goal to recycle.

Residents have the opportunity to recycle documents and other paperwork once a month at various locations.

The event may end early if the truck fills up at a location. Residents can call the recycling helpline at (914) 813-5425 to see if that's the case.

County recycling worker Nicholas Monaco said the service is useful to a lot of people.

“They can get rid of a lot of their old recyclables,” he said.

The shredder is back in the city from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20.
