The money, granted by the Health Resources and Services Administration, will allow the college to provide scholarships for economically disadvantaged students studying nursing or other health specialties, according to a release from Engel's office.
“No one should be denied an education in their field of choice because of their background,” Engel said. “This funding will ensure that students from low-income homes can pursue careers in health care and, in turn, care for the people of our community.”
The College of New Rochelle will choose eligible scholarship recipients, according to the release. A full description of the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program can be found here.
Engel represents the 16th Congressional District, which encompasses parts of the Bronx and Westhester County.
