The Daughters of the Revolution and the Huguenot Association erected the bronze monument for New Rochelle's 225th anniversary in 1913. American Artist Solon Borglum designed the statue.
Leisler was advocate for the early Huguenot settlers in the area.
The statue's restoration comes from surplus funds from the 325th Anniversary Committee for New Rochelle.
