New Rochelle Mayor Donates Blood To Volunteer New York!

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson got into the giving spirit recently, as he donated a pint of blood to Volunteer New York! in Tarrytown as part of its Sept. 11 service activities.

In a post on his website, Bramson posted a picture of himself strapped in and giving blood, while taking a self depreciating jab at his wardrobe.

“Volunteer NY sponsored a blood drive as part of its many 9-11 service activities, and I was happy to donate a pint,” he wrote. “But I am now waiting for my mother to offer a horrified comment about the worn out soles evident in the photo.”

Volunteer New York! led more than 25 different projects this year to benefit the community in the spirit and memory of the terrorist attacks. The projects provided food to the hungry, aided the less fortunate and benefited the environment and community as a whole.

In total, nearly 1,000 volunteers participated, providing more than 1,300 hours of service. 818 pounds of nonperishable protein, as well as 85 units of blood – enough to save 255 lives – 14,250 diapers, and 650 pairs of children’s socks were donated.
