NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – More than 1,000 people gathered on the Library Green on Sunday for the Mexican Independence Day Fiesta which ushered in New Rochelle’s “Big Read” program for 2012.

Library Director Tom Geoffino said they selected a collection of Mexican short stories called “Sun, Stone and Shadows”.

“We selected the book in honor of our Mexican community and all the great things they bring to New Rochelle,” Geoffino said. “They bring music, art, food craft and much more to our city. I’m seeing a lot of Mexican and non-Mexican residents here loving and learning about Mexican culture.
