Following a soft launch in March, officials in New Rochelle officially kicked off the program on Friday with a maiden voyage from City Hall to Anderson Plaza to mark the official launch of the county’s first such program.

The Bike Share includes 100 bicycles at 11 locations throughout the city for local residents to use at their leisure. They’re available for rent for $2 per half hour after downloading the bike share mobile app, which garnered more than 400 users in its first two months.

“Transportation and accessibility are among the top features attracting residents and visitors to the city,” New Rochelle City Manager Chuck Strome III said in a statement. “Launching the bike share program not only provides the community with a healthy transportation alternative, but also furthers New Rochelle’s progression into a city with sustainability - in every sense of the word - on its agenda.

“We are excited to have the first bike share program in Westchester County,” New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson added. “By providing today’s residents — and future residents — with a fun and sustainable way to get around, we help make New Rochelle a healthier, stronger community.”
