According to the Times article, many folks who set out from Manhattan or Brooklyn for less urban shores are finding that the small city with a hometown feel – noted for its diverse population and varied housing stock – is a good fit.

Situated on the shores of the Long Island Sound, New Rochelle possesses suburban beauty in the form of parks and nature preserves as well as a healthy arts and culture scene, the Times real estate report said.

For seniors, and others who no longer want to maintain rambling private homes, there are many apartments, The New York Times story said.
