  • Looking for roses that won't wilt starting Feb. 15? Check out Sutton Flowers where owner Bobby DeVivo personally travels to either LaGuardia Airport or NY's Flower District each morning as early as 4 a.m. to pick out the best flowers from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Holland or Columbia. He expects to sell anywhere from 500 to 1,500 red roses come Feb. 14 -- "It's what people want," he says, though he also has an array of other colors as well as other flower varieties. His personal pick for something a bit different yet still romantic? Black magic roses, which look like a dark wine color, mixed with hot pink or red roses and baby's breath. The fact that he runs the store with his wife, Mildred, is just another reason to trust him. After all, if he wasn't right, she'd tell him. Love it: 296 Huguenot St., 914-235-6565, www.flowersbysutton.com/.
  • Diamond hearts -- in either necklaces or rings  -- remain the big seller at New Rochelle Jewelers. Owner Tony Silver, who's been in business 36 years, says he's also seeing a lot of rose gold with chocolate diamonds. And though Valentine's Day isn't his busiest day (Christmas and Mother's Day are number one and number two respectively), he says things usually get crazy in his store in the few days leading up to Feb. 14. "Starting Wednesday to Saturday it will be nuts," he says. Love it: 20 Division St., 914-576-1677, www.newrochellejewelers.com/.
  • Still need help? Alvin & Friends is offering a "Sweethearts Shopping Evening" Feb. 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. complete with complimentary appetizers, a cash bar and a specially selected array of local vendors selling fine jewelry, fashion accessories, artisanal chocolates, luxe body lotions and more. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the YMCA’s Be A Lifesaver Campaign, which is raising funds to repair the swimming pool. Love it: 14 Memorial Highway, 914-654-6549, www.alvinandfriendsrestaurant.com/.
