The honor, the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, was awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, according to city officials.

The award was based on New Rochelle’s financial reports for the 2015 fiscal year, according to the statement, which said that the city has earned the honor in each of the past 25 years.

“We commend our Finance Department for once again receiving such a distinguished honor,” said City Manager Charles B. Strome, III. “This award is a tribute to their professionalism and integrity.”

According to the city’s statement, Finance Commissioner Tracy Yogman expressed similar sentiments, calling the Certificate of Achievement “a significant accomplishment that recognizes the fine work of our entire staff.”

Serving 17,500 government finance professionals across the country, the Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association with offices in Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C., according to New Rochelle officials.

According to the city, winners of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting are determined by an impartial panel that decides whether financial offices “meet the high standards of the program.”

The Certificate can be found on the New Rochelle website, at the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, 515 North Ave., and at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza.
