NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – New Rochelle High School art teacher Scott Seaboldt held a reception Thursday for his latest artwork at New Rochelle District 4 councilman Ivar Hyden’s gallery, Backstreet Gallery and Framing , at 43 Lawton St.

Seaboldt said his work looks into how people look at a painting. He said he wanted to look into how many different ways people can look at his work, which is done with oil paint on a linen surface.

“I try to get people into the painting,” said Seaboldt.

Seaboldt’s paintings have loops that represent where someone’s eye might go as they view a piece of art.

Seaboldt achieves his goals through abstract expression, using colors and shapes to draw in the viewer.

"It's more personal" than representational or still-life painting, said Seaboldt.

The exhibit, which began Sunday, lasts until Feb. 13.

Seaboldt was the man behind the biennial "Ides of March" exhibit in New York City.

Seaboldt teaches Advanced Placement art classes at New Rochelle High School. He also has former students working at Backstreet, with artwork on display next to his.
