Piero Manrique won the bid for the murals, and worked with economic development and library officials to design the floor-to-ceiling murals, according to a press release.
It took Manrique 10 weeks to complete the murals, which mix local scenery along with famous people such as Lou Gehrig and Norman Rockwell who have lived in New Rochelle.
Manrique, a native of Peru, has lived in Westchester County since he was 13 years old.
He graduated from Mamaroneck High School, later earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Parsons The New School for Design.
Manrique’s art has been displayed in numerous galleries in the United States and Europe.
He also created four large nature scene murals for the Westchester MRF Conference Center in Yonkers and 24 black and white murals for Manhattan’s Gotham Hotel.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for Manrique’s New Rochelle murals, which Mayor Noam Branson is scheduled to attend, will be from 5:30-6 p.m.
