Beginning on Monday, Station Plaza North will be limited to one-way traffic toward North Avenue, with access to the New Rochelle Transit Center available only through Memorial Highway.

The changes come as the city prepares for the future construction of the North Avenue Bridge, forcing the implementation of a new traffic pattern. To assist motorists, cyclists and pedestrians during the transition, a special page has been set up on the city website with live updates available at www.newrochelleny.com/roadwayalerts.

Additionally, DPW crews will begin street resurfacing this month, with milling and paving expected to follow through October.

According to New Rochelle Mayor Bramson, this is all happening as the city prepares to reconstruct the North Avenue Bridge spanning I-95, which requires temporary traffic adjustments. He added that this plan meets a short-term need and that city officials are hopeful that the new pattern will prove more efficient and convenient for commuters long-term.

“We’ll see how things go. If it works, the new pattern will be here to stay,” he stated. “If not, we can shift back to a two-way pattern when the bridge project wraps up.

Flyers with information about the traffic change and construction schedules will be available at the ITC Garage and lobby at the train station. Those with questions or concerns can contact New Rochelle officials at nrparking@lazparking.com.
