McLean, a singer and songwriter, turns 70 on Friday.
McLean, who was born Oct. 2, 1945, in New Rochelle, is most famous for the 1971 album and song "American Pie."
McLean was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004, and in 2012 he won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Lifetime Achievement award.
PBS broadcast a feature length documentary about his life in 2012.
He lives in Camden, Maine, with his wife, Patrisha McLean, and their two children, Jackie and Wyatt
