Farmer’s Market Coupons Now Available to Qualifying Seniors

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Fresh veggies and other locally sourced foods are now available to seniors on a budget through the use of discount Farmer's Market coupons being offered through the New Rochelle Office for the Aging.

The coupons will be available to applicants ages 60 and older and who currently are receiving or eligible to receive SSI, public assistance, food stamps or Section 8 housing subsidy.

To be eligible, individuals must have a monthly income at or below $1,832 per month for a one-person household; $2,470 a month or less for a two-person household and $3,108 for a three-person or more household. 

The checkbook-style coupons will be distributed while supplies last beginning Thursday through Sept. 30 at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center, 94 Davis Ave., from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. weekdays. Proof of age and New Rochelle residency are required. Applicants must come in person to sign an affidavit.

The coupons are valid at New Rochelle’s Down to Earth Farmers Market, which is at Huguenot Park from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays and the New Rochelle BID Grand Market at Library Green from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The markets feature a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and specialty foods.
