Wide Array Of Free Summer Programs Offered At New Rochelle Library

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The array of free summer programs for all ages is in full swing at the New Rochelle Public Library.

Both the Main Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library continue offering a wide variety of free programs that encourage students to use the libraries’ resources and boost reading abilities while school is out.

In addition to weekly workshops, and daily “Summer Fun on the Patio” at Huguenot Children’s Library, a number of family-friendly programs will take place in the Ossie Davis Theater of the main library during the weeks of July 27 and Aug. 3.

  • The Disney Summer Hit Parade movie, “The Moon-Spinners,” will be shown on Monday, July 27, and the movie, “Island at the Top of the World,” will be featured Monday, Aug. 3. Both movies start at 6 p.m. and are appropriate for all ages.
  • Aszmara, one of the region’s most acclaimed belly dancers, will perform to live music from the Middle East as part of the International Music and Dance series Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m.
  • On Aug. 4, Bokandeye, the popular African Drum and Dance Troupe, will perform their annual show celebrating the traditions of African villages. Both hour-long shows start at 7 p.m. with seating on a first-come, first-served basis, to the capacity of the 138-seat Ossie Davis Theater.
  • A series of Films from Picture Books for the Younger Set will provide enriching entertainment for children ages 2-6 years Wednesday, July 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Musician Evan Gottfried will take the stage for a Live Show for the Younger Set Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 10:30 a.m.
  • A naturalist from the Sheldrake Environmental Center will present “Nature Adventures in Your Own Backyard” Wednesday, July 29 at 2 p.m. Children in second through fifth grades will have the opportunity to discover the natural world up-close-and-personal.
  • The 2014 film “Paddington” will be shown Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m.
