NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- This weekend, there are a number of things going on at the New Rochelle Public Library. Check out our events page for more.
Friday, April 5
"Moral Injury: The Effects Of War": 6-9 p.m. This Veteran-Civilian Dialog is about addressing the cost of conflict in our society. The violence of combat not only affects those on the front lines, but those at home as well. Veterans and civilians alike suffer from the actions carried out in the name of duty, honor and country. How easily can veterans articulate what happens to them overseas? How well do civilians understand the veteran experience? What role does each have in the other’s recovery? Please join VCD in answering these questions. RSVP@IntersectionsInternational.org.
Saturday, April 6
BID Family Science Day: 1-4 p.m. JOIDES Resolution, America’s only research vessel dedicated to scientific ocean drilling, joins the NRPL in creating great activities for kids, including ship-to-shore Skyping with scientists aboard the JOIDES Resolution, and hands-on experiments. Also meet children’s book author Kevin Kurtz and view a big-screen reading of his new e-book, Uncovering Earth’s Secrets: Science and Adventure on the JOIDES Resolution. At 3 p.m. join a live, interactive Skype session with scientists and crew on the JR. Get a virtual tour of the ship, find out where it is and where it’s drilling next, and get facts first-hand!
Sunday, April 7
Science Sunday for Teens and Adults: 1-3 p.m. High school and college students interested in geology, ocean sciences, maritime studies or engineering are invited to an informal meet-and-greet with scientists who have worked aboard the JR. Ask what it’s like to work in these fields, and find out about academic preparation at campuses in our region – and why their work matters. Following this is a presentation and discussion with one or more geoscientists about their research during and after expeditions at sea.
The New Rochelle Public Library is located at 1 Library Plaza.
