NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- From book signings to St. Patrick's Day celebrations, there are plenty of events this weekend in New Rochelle.
Friday, March 15
Coffee & Conversation with City Historian Barbara Davis: 9:30 to 11 a.m. When New Rochelle celebrated its 250th anniversary, the community threw “the biggest parade EVER,” which went on for more than five hours. With the 325th anniversary of New Rochelle's founding this year, city historian Barbara Davis will provide an illustrated slide presentation detailing how New Rochelle has marked its important milestones over the years. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Free. Event takes place in the first floor meeting room of the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza.
Faux Pas to Fabulous Book Signing at Just Funki: 7 to 9 p.m. Join Just Funki for a book signing featuring Inga Joseph Watkins, author of "Faux Pas to Fabulous," an insider’s manners guide to help you go from making missteps to being socially savvy. Discover the five items every woman should have in her purse and the important rules for dapper gentlemen. Just Funki is located at 37 Division St. in New Rochelle.
Saturday, March 16
St. Patrick's Day Irish Celebration: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join the New Rochelle Public Library in this all-day Irish affair. From 11 a.m. to noon, there will be a Children’s Craft Workshop for kids in pre-k through Grade 5. They can make a leprechaun puppet and green accessories to wear. The workshop takes place in the meeting Room. At 3 p.m., the Westchester Harp Ensemble will perform a lively selection of Celtic music that will delight and enchant all ages. Lois Colin will direct the 12 members on Celtic harps. The performance will be in the Ossie Davis Theater. Free.
New Rochelle High School Basketball Plays in the State Semifinals: 12:30 p.m. The Huguenots will take on Northport High School in the New York State semifinal in Glen Falls. If New Rochelle wins, it goes to the state championship game Sunday. Buses are being organized to take fans to see the game.
Sunday, March 17
Sound Shore St. Patrick's Day Parade: 1:30 p.m. An exciting lineup from across the Sound Shore area will march in the second annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Come watch the O’Rourke Academy of Irish Dance, the Iona Pipers, the Knights of Columbus, the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, the Salesian High School Marching Band, Girl Scout Troops and more go down Mamaroneck Avenue in Mamaroneck.
