NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The second annual WFAN All-Stars Celebrity Softball Game – featuring professional sports stars like MLB greats Bernie Williams and Daryl Strawberry – comes to New Rochelle on Thursday at the Flowers (City) Park at 6 p.m.
Former New Rochelle resident and high school alum Craig Carton, of the “Boomer and Carton” sports radio show, joins co-host Boomer Esiason on the All-Stars team with Williams, Strawberry, Roy White, Anthony Mason, Carl Banks, Howard Johnson, Ron Bloomberg, Wally Szczerbiak and Speedy Claxton.
The All-Star team will join New Rochelle's City Team on the field, made up of Mayor Noam Bramson, City Manager Chuck Strome and members of the city's Parks and Recreation Adult Softball League, among others. Harold Crocker, athletic director of College of New Rochelle, will coach the team in a nine-inning slow pitch game.
A preliminary event for warm-ups begins at 5:30 p.m. and game time is at 6 p.m.
A food and beverage court area hosted by Beechmont Tavern and the New Rochelle Youth Bureau will be open throughout the game. An event merchandise raffle will be conducted to raise funds for the newly established “Friends of New Rochelle Parks” fund. Body Armor sports drink is sponsoring the event.
